INDIANAPOLIS – Lou Anarumo is looking for different body types up front, and the Colts added to that in Round Six.

With the 190th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Colts took Alabama defensive tackle Tim Smith in Round Six.

Here are 3 takeaways on Smith:

Big Body In The Interior

Via a trade back with the Rams in Round 4, the Colts added an extra 6th round pick that went to Alabama defensive tackle Tim Smith. A 5-year college player at Alabama, Smith (6-4, 306) was a big body in the middle of the Crimson Tide defensive line. Smith ate up some space for Alabama. His production numbers won’t wow you (6.5 career sacks and 14.5 career tackles for loss). The Colts staff got hands-on experience with Smith at the Senior Bowl.

Rotational Role In 2025

In coming to the Colts, Tim Smith will likely compete for snaps behind Grover Stewart. Defensive tackle depth has been an issue for the Colts in recent years, so that’s where Smith will look to earn a role. Expect Smith to be more of the Stewart backup, versus the DeForest Buckner one. Smith had a top-30 visit with the Colts during the draft process.

Defensive Tackle Future In Question

While DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart remain great players north of the age of 30, those ages can’t be ignored. Lou Anarumo had a lot of bigger interior D-line bodies in Cincinnati, so this is a move in that area. The Colts added Naville Gallimore in free agency as they look to change up some of the bodies behind Stewart and Buckner.
